Center for Informatic Geodesy – Cartography (CIGC)

Fields of scientific and technological activities

Study and produce software for geodetic, cartographic, remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS) applications.

Establishment of study, experiment, and implementation of new technology, technical and organizational methodology in fields of geodesy, cartography, remote sensing and GIS.

Establishment of scientific and technological services including project’s assessment, product’s quality verification in fields of geodesy, cartography, remote sensing and GIS.

Organize technological transfers, scientific seminars and training workshops for professional improvement in fields of geodesy, cartography, remote sensing and GIS.

Establishment of surveying and application designing activities in fields of geodesy and cartography.

Institute of geography.

Institute of Geography (IG) is the scientific and technological research organization belongs to Vietnam National Center for Natural Science and Technology ( VNNCST).

Founded in 1993 on the basic of Center for Geography and Natural Resources of National Center for Scientific Research of Vietnam( NCSR).

Staff members: 124 persons. Among them 2 professors, 6 associate-professors, 2 D.Sc. and 27 Ph.D.

Organization of IG: 13 Departments:

• Department of Landscape- Ecology.

• Department of Environmental Impact Assessment.

• Department of Socio-economic Geography.

• Surface water Resources Department.

• Ground water Resources Department.

• Department of Remote-Sensing Technology.

• Department of Cartography, scientific and technological information.

• Department of Environment data Processing.

Main functions of IG:

• Investigation and Assessment of natural resources (water, soil, biology...) and natural conditions for territorial planning.

• Environmental Impact Assessment of industrial, agricultural, constructions and others.

• Researching of Geography of the adjacent countries and countries over the world.

• Application of modern methods such as: Remote- sensing, automatic Cartography, Geographical Information System.

• Training activities in M.Sc, Ph.D.

Some departments specified in cartography, remote sensing and GIS:

1. Department of Cartography, Scientific and Technological Information.

Main functions:

• Thematic mapping.

• Applying and developing modern cartographic technique such as: remote-sensing, digital cartography, GIS.

• Establishing regional atlas of territory of Vietnam.

• Training in thematic mapping.

2. Department of Remote-Sensing Technology.

Main functions:

• Application of remote sensing for natural resource mapping and monitoring.

• Application of GIS for natural resources management and research.

3. Department of Environment data Processing.

• Development of different geo-information software such as PC-based digital image processing and GIS software.

• Photochemical processing of Remote-sensing data.

• Training and technology transfer.
